Characteristics of the tape drives include:
  • Mixing LTO2 and LTO3 tape drives in the L500 is supported.
  • Customers that already have LTO2 SCSI or LTO2 FC tape drives in an existing L180, L700, or L5500 library:
    • Can migrate the drives to the L500.
    • Must order the appropriate tape drive conversion kit and quantity.

  • The maximum cartridge configuration has 577 slots (with CAPs) and 2 tape drives.
  • The maximum tape drive configuration has 18 drives and 395 slots (with CAPs).
4Each module (base or expansion) comes with two power options:
  • Standard - 1 power supply
  • Redundant - 2 power supplies
The Sun StorEdge L500 Tape Library is supported in the following units: Characteristics include:
  • L500 base unit and up to 3 expansion modules (DEMs/CEMs) can be installed in the Sun Rack 900-38
  • L500 base unit and up to 3 expansion modules (DEMs/CEMs) can be installed in the Sun Rack 1000-38.
  • L500 base unit and up to 4 expansion modules (DEMs/CEMs) can be installed in the Sun Rack 1000-42.
  • Sun Rack 1000-42 is the recommended rack for the L500 due to rack depth and total rack units.
