Troubleshooting Steps

Applies to:

Sun Fire T2000 Server - Version All Versions and later
Sun SPARC Enterprise T2000 Server - Version All Versions and later
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (32-bit)

Purpose

Provide customer with clear information to diagnose faults from FT2.

Also, required actions for resolution

Troubleshooting Steps

The following steps apply to the following Servers: Sun Fire[tm] T2000 Server , Sun Fire[tm] T2000 Server, RoHS:YL

How to verify if a CPU fan has failed:

Step 1: Locate the system for which this event which has occurred

Step 2: Log into Solaris

Step 3: Run "prtdiag -v":

FT0/FM1     RS             ok
FT0/FM2     RS             ok
FT2            RS             FAILED

Further information can be found on the Service Processor / Alom:

sc> showfaults -v

/Status_EventsR[8]/Message:               SYS_FAN at FT2 has FAILED.

Note: The output can vary slightly per System firmware version, HW version and Solaris version.

Step 4: If a fan has failed create a Service Request , if not go to Step 5

Step 5: Since the failure was of transient nature no action needs to be taken

End Diagnosis

Reference Information:

Part Number Information can be found using the System Handbook:

Sun System Handbook

Sun Fire[tm] T2000 Server / Sun Fire[tm] T2000 Server, RoHS:YL ( 541-0645 [C]  Rear Fan Tray )

Recommended Action:

Open a service request by one of the following methods:

Use My Oracle Support to open the service request using active CSI# for the system.

Call Oracle directly using 1-800-223-1711 and follow prompts to open the service request

T2000 blower tray: 541-0645 uses an open bearing fan that can fail at elevated failure rates after 2-3 years in the field which can

degrade over time leading to fan failure. The failure rates seen can vary based on a number of environmental factors such as data

center cooling, air quality, humidity levels, etc. Fix is to replace failed units with replacement P/N 541-0645 from the RSL stock.  If

a customer has concerns or has experienced excessive failures contact Product Lead [email protected]

or Engineering's [email protected] for assistance.
