proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.
Troubleshooting Steps
1. Verify that you can log into the Service Processor and Collect a Solution Extract.
Reference <Document: 1003756.1> Collecting a Solution Extract for a StorEdge[TM] 6920.
If you cannot log into your Service processor, reference <Document: 1012883.1> Troubleshooting StorEdge 6920[TM] Browser and sscs(1M) Access Problems.
2. Verify Battery Status in the extractor.
a) Review the solution extract:
- Click on Storage Automated Diagnostic Environment.
- Click on Administration Tab -> Utilities Tab -> Solution Extract Tab.
- Your solution extract from Step 1, should be listed, click on the View Content link.
- Look at the Arrays section(this is usually at the top.
- Click on the arrayNN/commands/fru_stat output.
The Arrays section comprises output from each 6020 tray in the 6920 Array. You should be able to get the array name in question from the Alarm, or email notification you were sent.
Example:
POWER STATUS STATE SOURCE OUTPUT BATTERY TEMP FAN1 FAN2
------ ------- --------- ------ ------ ------- ------ ------ ------
u1pcu1 ready enabled line normal normal normal normal normal
u1pcu2 ready enabled line normal normal normal normal normal
Batteries may have the following State:
State | Definition |
off |
PCU is switched off or disabled by the firmware |
missing |
Battery is missing |
normal |
Battery is healthy and operating normally |
active |
Battery is supplying power to PCU, indicating AC power failure |
charge |
Battery is charging but no health tests against the battery are taking place |
in test |
Battery is being tested and is either charging or discharging |
failed |
Battery failed testing |
fault |
A fault is/was detected |
disabled |
PCU has been disabled and is not supplying power |
margin |
none of the above apply |
unknown |
internal software/firmware error |
- If the state is fault/margin/unknown, go to Step 4.
- If the state is off/missing/active/disabled, Reference <Document: 1156997.1> Troubleshooting StorEdge[TM] 6920 Power Cooling Unit Faults.
- If the state is in-test/charge, go to Step 3.
- If the battery status is normal, no further work is required.
- If the battery is failed, Please contact Oracle with a current Solution Extract.
Reference <Document: 1003756.1> Collecting a Solution Extract for a StorEdge[TM] 6920.
3. Verify battery status again after 10 hours.
The battery can take between 3 and 10 hours to fully charge.
If the battery remains in an in-test/charge status after 10 hours, Please contact Oracle with a current Solution Extract.
Reference <Document: 1003756.1> Collecting a Solution Extract for a StorEdge[TM] 6920.
Otherwise re-evaluate the battery status.
4. Further Analysis is required.
Based on the information identified, the battery is in a non-optimal state, but it is not clear as to why, or whether a part requires replacement.
Please contact Oracle with a current Solution Extract for further analysis.
