Purpose

Diagnosing power problems on tape drives.

Troubleshooting Steps

Steps to Follow
Diagnosing power issues on drives:

Step 1. Are other drives on or running?                                                    NO – GO TO STEP 18.

Step 2. Is the power supply on (fan running)?                                           NO – GO TO STEP 10.
 
Step 3. Is this a Cherokee Power Supply in 9x40 drives?                            NO---GO TO STEP 5.

Step 4. Check DC voltages at drive side of power supply-to-drive cable per Tech Tip MPSS-304 attached below.
           Are DC voltages in specification?                                                  NO – GO TO STEP 7.

Step 5. Cycle Power Supply off then on.  Does drive IPL?                            NO – GO TO STEP 20.

Step 6. EXIT.

Step 7. Can DC voltages be adjusted to specification per Tech Tip MPSS-304 attached below.    
                                                                                                           NO – GO TO STEP 9.

Step 8. GO TO STEP 5.

Step 9. Replace POWER SUPPLY.       GO TO STEP 2.

Step 10. Does Power Supply have a power on/off switch?                          NO – GO TO STEP 12.

Step 11. Is the Power Supply switch on?                                                 NO – GO TO STEP 14.

Step 12. Is there AC to the Power Supply?                                              NO – GO TO STEP 15.

Step 13. Replace POWER SUPPLY.     GO TO STEP 2.

Step 14. Turn on power switch.         GO TO STEP 2.

Step 15. Plug drive line cord into another outlet.  Is the Power Supply on?   NO – GO TO STEP 17.

Step 16. GO TO STEP 3.

Step 17. Replace LINE CORD.           GO TO STEP 5.
 
Step 18. Check Main Power. Monitor for future failures.
Log information into account log/case for future reference.

Step 19. EXIT.

Step 20. GO TO 1016821.1 for information needed by Oracle Technical Support to assist in resolving issue.
