Purpose

Steps and documentation to resolve defect tape drive issue.

Troubleshooting Steps

Steps to Follow:
Confirm the drive is online and functional.
-Verify that you have physical access to the tape drive.
If not, go to Document: 1016821.1 on information needed by Oracle Tape Hardware support to assist in resolving the issue.

-Verify that power is on for the drive by checking the power supply LED and the status light on the drive itself.
If no power, check power connections to the drive and the power switch is "on" at the power supply.
If power does not come on, go to Document: 1019820.1.  If power does come up, proceed down the steps.

-Verify that there is not a stuck cartridge in the drive.
If there is a tape cartridge physically stuck in drive, refer to Document: 1015284.1  If there is no stuck tape, proceed down the steps.

-Verify that there is no error message being displayed on the front panel of the drive.
If there is an error condition, record the message.  Attempt to reset the drive to clear the error and verify functionality.
If this has not occurred before on this drive, log the information and monitor.  If this is a re-occurrence,  contact Oracle Tape Hardware Support for further assistance.

-Verify that the drive is now functional.
If not, go to Document: 1016821.1  for information that will be needed to assist Sun Support in resolving the issue.
