Description
This document describes when attempting to delete a SE99xx LUN (for instance via Storage Navigator), "scsi reservation by host" may be reported and LUN cannot be deleted.

Troubleshooting Steps

Steps to Follow
When attempting to delete a SE99xx LUN (for instance via Storage Navigator), "scsi reservation by host" may be reported and LUN cannot be deleted.

1) Ensure that the LUNs are umounted and unmapped from host side (OS/VxVM/cluster).

2) If problem persists, check for a scsi reservation on the host side.

If using Sun[TM] Cluster, determine the DID of the disk:

# scdidadm -L

Verify that there is a SCSI-3 PGR on the disk:

# /usr/cluster/lib/sc/scsi -c inkeys -d /dev/did/rdsk/dXs2

Scrub the reservation from the disk:

# /usr/cluster/lib/sc/scsi -c scrub -d /dev/did/rdsk/dXs2

If using HDLM (Hitachi Dynamic Link Manager), the dlmpr utility may be used to attempt to clear the reservation. Note - this utility is not included in the HDLM installation.  It is an executable file located on the HDLM installation CD in the DLMTools directory (i.e. e:\DLMTools\dlmpr.exe)

Display the HDLM managed paths and their persistent reserve information:

# dlmpr -d

Clear the persistent reserve information interactively:

# dlmpr - c

The above displays a list of the paths for HDLM managed LUs and persistent reserve information. Clear the persistent reserve specifying the path ID.

Internal Comments
scsi reservations can occur regardless of host platform, and different platforms provide their own tools to assist in scrubbing such reservations. The above are only two of the many methods available depending upon platform.
