Instructions for the Reader

A Troubleshooting Guide is provided to assist in debugging a specific issue. When possible, diagnostic tools are included in the document to assist in troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting Details

Symptoms:

  • User can't determine the current (installed) or the latest (available) firmware version.

  • User is not able to determine the firmware location or use the correct syntax for the firmware upgrade commands.

  • User is using incorrect firmware upgrade method or can't determine whether using incompatible or unsupported firmware.

Steps to Follow
Please validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.
Steps to update firmware:
  1. Verify the current firmware level. Refer to Document 1012949.1: How to determine the system firmware version on T1000/T2000.

  2. Verify that the user is using the correct command line syntax, confirm the correct path to the new firmware location and access to the new firmware location. Refer the Sun Fire 1000 Install Guide or the Sun Fire T2000 Install Guide as applicable.

  3. Verify that the system is in the  powered-off  state and the system keyswitch is not in the LOCKED position. Refer to document 1011226.1 : Selecting the firmware upgrade method on T1000/T2000.

  4. Verify that a proper upgrade method is used. Refer to the patch Install.info file and Document 1012949.1 : How to determine the system firmware version on T1000/T2000.

At this point, if the user has validated that each troubleshooting step above  is true for the  environment, and the issue still exists, further troubleshooting is required. Gather the needed data by running explorer -w default,Tx000.  Reference document 1018946.1: How to use Explorer on the T1000/T2000/T5120/T5220/T5140/T5240/T5440 Systems.
