FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS. Then power off the server and remove the AC power cords from the system.
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Prepare the server for service.
- Power off the server and disconnect the power cords from the power supplies.
- Extend the server to the maintenance position in the rack.
- Attach an anti-static wrist strap.
2. Remove the top cover from the storage drive cage
- Remove six Phillips screws from the top of the drive cage—three on each side.
- Open the server's fan door by sliding the fan door latches forward and swinging the door up.
- Slide the storage drive cover forward (toward the front of the server) and lift it up.
3. Remove the Front Indicator Module.
- Loosen the screw that secures the FIM assembly to the server chassis.
- Carefully slide the FIM assembly toward the rear enough to lift it over the Phillips screw and lift the FIM assembly out of the server
- Disconnect the FIM cable from the FIM assembly and set the assembly aside.
4. Install the Replacement Front Indicator Module.
- Unpack the replacement FIM and place it on an antistatic mat.
- Connect the FIM cable to the replacement FIM assembly.
- Carefully lower the FIM assembly into the chassis, position it over the Phillips screw in the server's chassis, and slide it forward so that all the LEDs, USB connectors and Power On button fit into place on the server's front panel.
- Tighten the Phillips screw to secure the FIM assembly to the server's chassis.
5. Re-install the top cover to the storage drive cage.
- Place the drive cage cover over the server's drive cage and slide it back to align the screw holes with the proper holes in the top of the chassis frame.
- Install the six Phillips screws (three on each side) to secure the cover to the server.
- Close the fan door.
6. Return the Server to operation
- Remove any anti-static measures that were used.
- Return the server to it's normal operating position within the rack.
- Re-install the AC power cords and any data cables that were removed.
- Power on server. Verify that the Power/OK indicator led lights steady on.
