FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
System Configuration Card Reader failed.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge.

Remove the defective part:

01. Power off the system.
02. Disconnect the AC or DC power cables from the back of the system.
03. Remove the top cover.
04. Completely remove the System Configuration Card from the System Configuration Card Reader.
05. Remove the DVD drive from the front of the system.
06. Disconnect the fan cable from the SCSI backplane.
07. Pull the rotary switch away from the system to remove it from the server
08. Disconnect the connector board power cable from the J18 connector on fan tray 3.
09. Disconnect the P1 DVD cable from the P1 connector on the motherboard.
Note: Lift up the connector ejector levers as far as they go to release the DVD cable end from the connector, then pull the DVD cable out of the connector.
10. Remove the PCI cards from the system, if necessary.
Note: If long PCI cards are installed in the PCI slots at the rear of the system, you must remove them from the system before you can remove the System Configuration Card Reader.
11. Unscrew the one screw that secures the Fan Tray 3 Assembly to the system.
12. Slide the Fan Tray 3 Assembly to the rear of the system to disengage it and lift it up to remove it from the system.
13. Unscrew the one screw to split the Fan Tray 3 Assembly into two pieces.
Caution: The System Configuration Card Reader is mounted to the lower piece of the Fan Tray 3 Assembly, so the entire lower piece of the Fan Tray 3 Assembly will be replaced. Do not discard the upper piece of the Fan Tray 3 Assembly; you will attach that to the replacement lower piece.

Install the new part:

01. Get the replacement lower piece of the Fan Tray 3 Assembly, which contains the System Configuration Card Reader.
02. Assemble the new lower piece of the Fan Tray 3 Assembly with the existing upper piece.
Note: Align the three tabs on the existing upper piece of the fan tray 3 assembly with the three slots in the new lower piece and slide the two pieces completely together.
03. Secure them together using the single captive screw.
04. Insert the Fan Tray 3 Assembly into the system.
05. Secure the Fan Tray 3 Assembly to the system using the single captive screw.
06. Reinstall any long PCI cards, if necessary.
07. Connect the connector board power cable at J18 on Fan Tray 3.
08. Connect the DVD cable at P1 on the motherboard.
09. Install the DVD drive back into the system.
10. Push the rotary switch back into place at the front of the server
11. Connect the fan cable to the SCSI backplane.
12. Replace the top cover.
13. Connect the AC or DC power cables to the back of the system.
14. Power on the system.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
