How to Remove and Replace a Sun Netra 440 System Configuration Card (SCC)

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Netra 440 Product Knowledge, and General hardware replacement experience.

TIME ESTIMATE:  15 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
System Configuration Card (SCC) failed.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

Caution:
– Attempting to remove the system configuration card while the system is running causes an immediate system shutdown in 60 seconds.
- If you are replacing a defective system configuration card, you must contact a Sun service representative to obtain a new card with the existing server’s host ID and MAC address. Do not reuse an old system configuration card if you have replaced it with a new one with the same host ID and MAC address.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge.

Remove the defective part:

01. Open the system door.
02. Locate the System Configuration Card Reader, which is at the left of the On/Standby button.
03. Pull the security post out of its position from in front of the System Configuration Card.
04. Grasp the system configuration card with your fingers and pull it out of the
system.

Install the new part:

01.Insert the new System Configuration Card into the System Configuration Card Reader, which is at the left of the On/Standby button.
02. Insert the security post into its position in front of the System Configuration Card.
03. Close the system door.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE


WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
