How to Remove and Replace a Sun Netra 440 DVD Drive

Netra 440 Product Knowledge, and General hardware replacement experience.


   TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
   PROBLEM OVERVIEW: DVD Drive Failure
   WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.


   WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Removing a DVD Drive

Note: the following steps describe how to remove and install both the DVD-ROM drive and the DVD-RW drive (both referred to as the DVD drive).

01. Attach the antistatic wrist strap.
02. Open the system door.
03. Press down on the two DVD drive locking tabs, releasing the DVD drive from its cage.
04. Pull out the DVD drive from the front of the system.
05. Slide the DVD drive into the system until the two DVD drive locking tabs click into place.
06. Close the system door.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

   WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
