TASK COMPLEXITY: 0 FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS: PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Fault Single Fan Tray WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: There is ONLY a CRU part number for the Fan Tray. However, the service manual explains the procedure to replace individual Fan 0-3 and Fan 4-5. WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?: Replacing Fans 0-3 Removing Fans 0-3 2. Locate the fans. Fans 0-3 are located at the center front of the chassis. 3. Disconnect the fan cable according to the following table. Fans 0-3 and Their Connectors Note – Remove the SAS cables from J7 of the SAS IF board before removing the fan cable from F3. 4. Lift the fan up and out of its bracket. 6. Repeat Step 3 to Step 5 for each fan to be removed. Caution – Do not power on the server without the fans installed. 7. Replace the fans. Installing Fans 0-3 1. Locate where the fan installs. Fans 0-3 install at the center front of the chassis. 2. Remove the replacement fan from its shipping container and antistatic packaging. 3. Set the fan down into the bracket. Fan Connector Note – Connect the SAS cables to J7 of the SAS IF board after connecting the fan cable from F3. 5. Install the air duct and top cover, install the server into the rack, power on the server, and verify the installation.
Removing Fans 4 and 5 1. Locate the fans. 3. Disconnect the fan cable of the fan to be removed from the power supply: ■ Fan 5 - J5 Disconnecting the Fan Cable 4. Remove the fan and set it aside on an antistatic mat. 5. Repeat Step 4 and Step 5 for each fan to be removed. Caution – Do not power on the server without the fans installed. 6. Replace fans Installing Fans 4 and 5 1. Locate where the fans install. Fans 4 and 5 install between the SAS IF assembly and the power supply at the right front of the chassis. 2. If either Fan 4 or Fan 5 is installed, lift it from the bracket. 3. Remove the replacement fan from its shipping container and antistatic packaging. 4. Connect the fan cable to its connector on the power supply. 5. Set both fans down into the bracket. 6. Install the top cover, install the server into the rack, power on the server, and verify the installation. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO If the replacement was a hot swap/plug on a redundant configuration, the system should be operational and need no further work.
