The operating system should be configured by the customer such that the disk drive is free for replacement.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/CUSTOMER ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE: Removing a Hard Drive If you are removing a hard drive while the operating system is still running, you must remove the drive logically from the operating system before physically removing it from the server. Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge 1. Open the bezel. 3. If the server is powered off, go to Step 5. 4. If the server is powered on: 5. Press the drive button to release the drive latch. 7. Set the drive aside on an antistatic mat.
Installing a Hard Drive
1. Open the bezel. 3. Remove the replacement hard drive from its shipping container and antistatic packaging. 4. Press the drive button to release the drive latch. The latch opens. 5. Orient the hard drive with the drive latch towards you and the label facing up. 6. Gently slide the drive into the drive bay by pressing on the area between the drive button and the drive status LEDs. 7. Press the drive latch closed. If you are installing a hard drive in a server that is powered off, see “Powering On the Server” on page 20 to power the server back on. The server recognizes the new hard drive once it has completely booted up. 8. Configure the newly installed hard drive e.g.
