DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: T2000 Product Knowledge/Training
TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes
*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: System Board (motherboard) failure.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? N/A
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. System needs to be shutdown by customer
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: The non-RoHS system boards and RoHS system boards on Netra T2000 are NOT compatible (interchangeable), so a non-RoHS system board can NOT be replaced by a RoHS-compliant system board and vice versa.
1. Shut the System Down & disconnect cables
2. Extend the Server to Maintenance Position & remove from rack if prefered
3. Perform Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures
4. Remove the Top Cover
5. Remove the PCI tray
6. Remove the DIMM/CPU Duct
7. Remove the Fan Tray Assy
8. Remove all DIMMs from motherboard assembly.
9. Remove the Alarm Card
10. Remove system controller card from motherboard assembly.
11. Disconnect cables from motherboard assembly.
12. Remove screws that secure motherboard assembly to chassis & bus bars.
13. Lift up slighty and slide the motherboard assembly forward, lift up on the right edge, and remove the motherboard assembly from the chassis.
14. Place faulty motherboard assembly on antistatic mat.
15. Unpackage replacement motherboard assembly and place it on antistatic mat.
16. Lower the left edge of the motherboard assembly into the chassis, then the entire board, and while slightly elevated, slide the motherboard assembly to the back of the chassis
17. Align the motherboard assembly screw holes over the chassis standoffs.
18. Secure motherboard assembly to chassis with screws.
19. Tighten two bus bar screws to secure bus bar to motherboard assembly.
20. Reinstall system controller card in motherboard assembly.
21. Reinstall Alarm Card.
22. Reinstall all DIMMs in motherboard assembly in slots from which they were removed.
23. Reconnect cables to motherboard
24. Reinstall Fan assembly
25. Reinstall DIMM/CPU duct
26. Reinstall PCI Tray
27. Reconnect all cables that were removed from rear of server.
28. Install top cover on chassis.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and ALOM "showfaults -v" command to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. If RAID volumes existed prior the replcement, follow document 1009723.1: Troubleshooting inability to see a pre-existing RAID volume on T1000/T2000 T5120/T5140/T5220/T5240/T5440 T6320/T6340
4. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
