    Sun Blade 1500 Red, How to Remove and Replace NVRAM

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Sun Blade 1500 product training is desirable but not required, as a CRU part

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: NVRAM failure

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/CUSTOMER ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

Removing the NVRAM

1.Power off the system, then open and position the chassis.

2.Locate the NVRAM.

3.Pull the NVRAM straight up from the connector.

Note – NVRAM and the NVRAM connector are keyed.
The workstation does not function without NVRAM.

Installing the NVRAM

NVRAM installs directly onto the motherboard. There are no additional fasteners or cables.

1.Locate the NVRAM connector.

2.Align the NVRAM key to the NVRAM connector key on the motherboard.

Note – NVRAM and the NVRAM connector are keyed.

3.Press the NVRAM down until snug.

4.Ensure that the NVRAM is tight in its connector.

5.Reposition the chassis, replace the access panel, power on the system, and verify the component installation.

 

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN the SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
