WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Sun Blade 1500 product training is desirable but not required, as a CRU part

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Rear Fan failure

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

 WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/CUSTOMER ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

Removing the Rear Fan

1. Power off the system and open the chassis.

2. Locate the rear fan. The rear fan is housed in a green plastic bracket that connects to the workstation
chassis.

3. Remove the DIMM cooling duct.

4. Disconnect the rear fan cable.

5. Release the rear fan bracket.

 

Caution – Do not operate the workstation without the rear fan.

 

Installing the Rear Fan

1. Locate where the rear fan is to be installed.

2. Remove the rear fan assembly from its packaging.

3. Align the rear fan bracket with the chassis.

4. Secure the rear fan bracket.

5. Connect the rear fan power cable to the motherboard connector FAN1 SYS.

7. Install the DIMM cooling duct.

8. Inspect the rear fan, fan cabling

9. Install the access panel, power on the system, and verify the rear fan installation

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN the SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
