WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Sun Blade 2500 product training is desirable but not required, as the part is a CRU

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Rear Fan failure

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

 WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/CUSTOMER ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:

Removing the Rear Fan


1.Power off the system and open the chassis.

2.Locate the rear fan.

3.Disconnect the rear fan cable from motherboard connector FAN0.

4.Squeeze and hold both rear fan bracket tabs and while holding the tabs, pull the rear fan bracket toward the chassis opening.

5.Lift the rear fan bracket and rear fan out of the chassis.

6.Flex an edge of the fan bracket away from the fan while lifting on the fan, repeating for all edges until the fan is released from the bracket.

7.Set the fan and bracket aside.

Caution – Do not power on the system if the rear fan is not installed.

 

Installing the Rear Fan


1.Locate where the rear fan is to be installed.

2.Remove the rear fan from its packaging.

3.Insert all four tabs of the rear fan bracket into the matching D-shaped holes in the chassis rear panel.

4.Slide the bracket toward the motherboard until the fan bracket latches click.

5.Align the rear fan cable to the bottom corner of the rear fan bracket and press the rear fan into the rear fan bracket until it clicks in place.

6.Connect the rear fan cable to the motherboard rear fan connector FAN0.

7.Verify the fan and bracket are securely seated into the chassis.

8.Verify the rear fan cable is firmly connected to the motherboard at connector FAN0.

9.Install the access panel, power on the system, and verify the component installation.

 

 

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN the SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
