This document describes the simple method for collecting logs from the Client Operating System for the Axiom R5 GUI

Applies to:

Pillar Axiom 500 Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Pillar Axiom 600 Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

In some instances, it may be necessary to manually collect client logs for the Pillar Axiom Storage Services Manager, also known as the Release 5.x GUI Client.

Fix

The GUI client logs are kept in a temporary directory specific to the end user login on the client.

On Windows systems, this directory can be accessed with Start -> Run -> "%temp%" which opens the temporary directory.
The GUI logs are in pillardata\log on Windows.
However, that will be all logs which may cover a long period of time.

By using the following log collection method, a zip file of the current logs is automatically generated.

Perform the action or display that is being investigated.

Then, with the Axiom GUI client on the screen, press the CTRL, ALT, and Z keys.

This should bring up a file browser with the pillardata log directory displayed, and there should be a newly created zip file of axiomgui-logs-[mm-dd-yy-hhmm-ss].zip

That zip file will contain the current set of client logs.

Each time CTRL-ALT-Z is pressed, a new zip will will be created.

These logs can be provided to the support engineer working the specific issue, along with any other logs requested by the support engineer.
