   TASK COMPLEXITY: 1 (low complexity)

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  How To Remove/Replace a Base Module KLM FRU in the StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: The SL150 library should be in an offline state to the host.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

To Remove the Failed Base Module KLM Card:

1. Power off the library via the Web GUI and use the option enabled to prepare the robot for removal so that the robot ends up being in the parked position.  If the Web GUI is not available please see the How to Park the Robot Manually procedure at the bottom of this document.

2. Reposition the robot lock to the locked position (loosen the thumbscrew, remove the mechanism, rotate the mechanism 180 degrees, insert the mechanism, and tighten the thumbscrew).

3. Disconnect all cables from the tape drives and library.

4. Remove the drive/drives from the base module.

5. Remove the drive filler plate/plates from the base module.

6. Remove the power supply/supplies from the base module.

7. Remove the power supply filler plate/plates from the base module.

8. Remove the robot set it aside.

9. Disconnect the magazine location cable on the bottom, left corner of the KLM card.

10. Disconnect the OP Panel cable at the top of the KLM card.

11. Remove the 2 T10 torx screws and slide the KLM card to the left and pull it out of the base module taking care not to touch any of the electronic components on the card.

12. Remove the USB memory stick out of the failed KLM card and set it aside.

To Replace the New Base Module KLM Card:

1 .Pull the new KLM card out of the packaging taking care not to touch any of the electronic components.

2. Put the USB memory stick into the new KLM card.

3. Place the KLM card into the Base Module making sure that you slide the KLM card onto the 2 standoffs and then aligning it with the grooves on the 2 standoffs.

4. Slide the KLM card to the right and install and tighten the 2 T10 torx screws.

5. Plug in the OP panel cable into the KLM card.

6. Plug in the magazine location cable into the KLM card.

Note: Make sure that the magazine location cable is kept out of the path of the drive tray so that the cable won't be damaged when the tape drive/drives are reinstalled.

7. Install the robot.

8. Install power supply/supplies.

9. Install power supply filler plate/plates.

10. Install drive/drives.

11. Install drive filler plate/plates.

12. Connect, Align, dress, and secure the library and drive cables in the hook and loop straps (Ethernet, FC/SAS, USB).

13. Reposition the robot lock to the unlocked position (loosen the thumbscrew, remove the mechanism, rotate the mechanism 180 degrees, insert the mechanism, and tighten the thumbscrew).

14. Power on the library from the power button on the front of the library.

How to Park the Robot Manually:

1. Remove the top tape drive from the base module (see “Drive Tray” on page 26).

2. Locate the bullwheel gear above the top drive slot.

3. Place your finger in an indent on the body of the bullwheel gear.

4. Turn the gear clockwise to raise the robot.

Note – Assume that the 12 o’clock position is toward the front control panel.

5. Hold the bullwheel gear with the robot fully raised until the robot is locked.

6. Reposition the robot lock to the locked position (loosen the thumbscrew, remove the mechanism, rotate the mechanism 180 degrees, insert the mechanism, and tighten the thumbscrew).
