How To Do The Initial Configuration Of A StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library From The Initial Config Wizard

Fix

Follow the following steps to configure the StorageTek SL150 Modular Library for the first time using the Initial Config Wizard:

1.  Enter the Default Password:

1.Tap the Start button on the initialization screen.  The Log in as the Default Administrator screen appears.
2.Tap the Edit button to access the keyboard screen.
3.Enter the default password (passw0rd) by tapping the keys on the appropriate keyboard screens (see “Keyboard Screens” on page 54).

Note – The key designations on the Letters screen are uppercase (as they appear on a standard keyboard). Tap the Shift key to set uppercase and tap the key again to return to lowercase.

4.Tap either the Done button or the Enter key after entering the last character of the password.  The final character remains readable while asterisks represent all other characters in the Password field.

5.Tap the Log In button.  The change password screen appears after a short delay.

2.  Change the Default Password:

1.Tap the Edit button to access the keyboard screen.
2.Tap the screen keys to input a new default administrator password.

Note – The password must be at least eight characters long and contain one or more numeric or special characters. The value passw0rd is considered invalid.

3.Tap the Next button after entering the final character of the password.
4.Enter the new password again in the Verify New Password field.
5.Tap the Done button or the Enter key.  The Change the Default Administrator Password screen appears with several large dots in both the New Password and Verify New Password fields.

3.  Set the Library Date & Time:

1.Tap the Edit button to access the keyboard screen.  The Letters screen appears with the parameter field showing Date.
    2.Enter the new date:
a.Tap the Clear button to remove any existing date value.

       b. Tap the screen keys to enter the current date in the format MM/DD/YYYY.
       c. Tap the Next button after entering the last digit for the year.  The keyboard screen appears, but the parameter field shows Time. If an incorrect time value is present, tap the Clear button.
3.Enter the time in the format HH:MM:SS AM/PM.

Note – Make sure to insert a space between the time and the AM or PM designation.

a.Tap the Clear button to remove any existing time value.
       b. Tap the screen keys to enter the current time.
4.Tap the Done button.  The Set the Library Date and Time screen appears showing the values you entered.

Note – Change any incorrect value by tapping the Edit button.

5.Verify the values are correct and tap the next screen (forward arrow) button.  The configure network screen appears.

4a.  Configure the Network (port 1) With a Static IP Address:

1.Tap the Static IP Address button.
    2.Enter the Host Name:
a.Tap the Edit button to access the keyboard screen.
       b. Tap the Clear button to remove any existing Host Name value.
       c. Tap the screen keys to enter the host name.
       d. Tap the Next button after entering the last character of the name.  The keyboard screen parameter field label is IP Address.
3.Enter a Static IP Address in the format XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:
       a. Tap the Clear button to remove any existing IP Address value.
       b. Tap the screen keys to enter the IP Address.
       c. Tap the Next button after entering the last character of the address.  The keyboard screen parameter field label is Netmask.
4.Enter the netmask in the format XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX.
       a. Tap the Clear button to remove any existing Netmask value.
       b. Tap the screen keys to enter the Netmask.
       c. Tap the Next button after entering the last character of the Netmask.  The keyboard screen parameter field label is Default Gateway.
5.Enter the default gateway in the format XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX.
       a. Tap the Clear button to remove any existing Default Gateway value.
       b. Tap the screen keys to enter the Default Gateway value.
       c. Tap the Done button after you have entered the last character of the gateway.  The Configure the Library Network Port 1 screen appears showing your entered values.

Note – Change any incorrect value by tapping the Edit button.

6.Verify the values are correct and tap the next screen (forward arrow) button.  The apply changes screen appears.

4b.  Configure the Network (port 1) Using DHCP:

Note:  This requires that you have an Ethernet cable plugged into Network port 1 or else the library will not initialize because it will need the IP adress to be assigned by a DHCP server.

    1.Tap the DHCP button.
2.Enter the Host Name (see FIGURE 4-9 on page 61):
a.Tap the Edit button to access the keyboard screen.
       b. Tap the Clear button to remove any existing Host Name value.
       c. Tap the screen keys to enter the host name.
       d. Tap the Done button after you have entered the last character.  The Configure the Library Network Port 1 screen appears showing your entered values.

Change any incorrect character by tapping the Edit button.  There is a note on the screen informing you that DHCP must be running on your network for startup to be successful.
3.Verify the values are correct and tap the next screen (forward arrow) button.
       The apply changes screen appears.

5.  Apply the Settings:

1.Verify the entered values for the date, time, and network interface.

Note – Alter any incorrect value before applying changes by tapping the highlighted back arrow.

Caution – Make sure all values are correct. If incorrect values are applied, the library must be returned to factory default values and the entire process repeated.

    2.Tap the Apply button.

The library performs a restart. The duration of the restart varies based upon the number of modules in the library (a 30 cartridge base module library takes about seven minutes). After completion of the restart, the Home screen appears on the touch screen.

Note – The top portion of the Home screen provides information on the library Health and the online/offline state. Make sure the library is online before using the SL150 remote interface.

You can now verify that the configuration settings are correct by either the local OP Panel on the library or by the Web GUI from a Web browser.
