A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures
1. Power off the server and unplug (REMOVE) the power cords from power supplies
2. Remove the top cover
3. Locate the PCIe card to be removed and its corresponding rise
4. Label and make note of the of where PCIe cards and cabling is installed
5. Unplug data cables from the PCIe card to be removed
6. Remove the riser board
7. Carefully remove the PCIe card from the riser board connector
8. Place the PCIe card on an antistatic mat
9. If you are not replacing the PCIe card, install a PCIe filler panel. PCIe filler panels are located in the motherboard rear panel
10. Install the replacement PCIe card into the PCIe riser connector
11. Reinstall the riser board: Slide the riser back until it seats in its slot in the rear panel. Tighten the captive No. 2 Phillips screw securing the riser to the motherboard.
12.Re-connect the cables
13. Replace the main cover
14. Slide the server into the rack.
15. Re-connect the power cords
