WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Basic Sun hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for T2000 platform.

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  T2000 PCI Card replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 5"), and after the system has shut down run the following commands from the ALOM:

1. setlocator on
2. poweroff

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Shut the System Down

2. Extend the Server to the Maintenance Position

3. Perform Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures

4. Disconnect Power From the Server

5. Remove the Top Cover

6. If replacing a PCI-E card, remove the PCI tray for access to the slot on the bottom of the tray.

7. Loosen the PCI arms securing screw & slide the PCI card then lift it out of the PCI tray

8. Lower the PCI card into position on the PCI tray, then slide it to seat it into the connector.

9. Tighten the PCI card securing screw.

10. If replacing a PCI-E card, install the PCI tray.

11. Place the top cover on the chassis.

12. Set the cover down so that it hangs over the rear of the server by about an inch.

13. Slide the cover forward until it latches into place.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Customer restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
