Fix
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Basic Sun hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for T2000 platform.
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: T2000 Fan board replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0").
Then, At the OK prompt Type #. (in key sequence) to get into Alom.
Run the following commands from the ALOM:
1. setlocator on
2. poweroff
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Shut the System Down
2. Extend the Server to the Maintenance Position
3. Perform Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures
4. Disconnect AC Power cable From the Server.
5. Remove the top cover.
Fan Assy Replacement:
1. Disconnect the fan assembly cable at J3 on the power board
2. Remove the fan assembly cable from the cable guides.
3. Insert your forefinger and thumb into the holes at the top of the fan assembly, squeeze them together, and lift the fan assembly from the chassis
4. Insert your forefinger and thumb into the holes at the top of the replacement fan assembly, squeeze them together, and lower the fan assembly into the chassis
5. Reconnect the fan assembly cable to connector J3 on the power board
6. Route the fan assembly cable back into the cable guides.
Hard Drive Fan Assy Replacement:
1. Disconnect the hard drive fan assembly cable from the power board connector J53. Carefully lift the hard drive fan assembly cable from the cable guides.
2. Push the release button on the hard drive fan bracket, and pivot the bracket backwards.
3. Slide the bracket forward and lift the hard drive fan assembly out
4. Lower the replacement hard drive fan assembly down, and slide the hard drive fan bracket back so that the tabs enter the slots
5. Pivot the hard drive fan bracket forward until it clicks.
6. Connect the hard drive fan assembly cable to the power board at J5
7. Route the hard drive fan assembly cable back into the cable guides.
Replacement Completion:
1. Install top cover
2. Re-install AC Power cables back.
3. Verify that the LED on the all fans and the Top fan, Service Required, and Locator LEDs are not lit.
4. Close the fan door and If necessary, return the server to its normal position in the rack.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
At Alom prompt:
1. setlocator off
2. poweron
3. console
At OK prompt
1. Boot
Customer restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
