FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Fan

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0"), and after the system has shut down Switch from the system console to the -> prompt by typing the #. (Hash Period) key sequence. At the -> prompt, type the stop /SYS command.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
1. Disconnect all power cables
2. Remove the Top Cover

Removal of FT0:
1. Disconnect the cable from FT0 at the Power Distribution Board connector & remove it from the cable guides.
2. Insert your forefinger and thumb into the holes at the top of the fan assembly, squeeze them together, and lift the fan assembly from the chassis.

Installation of FT0:
1. Insert your forefinger and thumb into the holes at the top of the fan assembly, squeeze them together, and lower the fan assembly into the chassis.
2. Reconnect the fan assembly cable to the power board
3. Route the fan assembly cable back into the cable guides.

Removal of FT1:
1. Disconnect the FT1 cable from the power distribution board connector & remove it from the cable guides.
2. Push the release button on the hard drive fan bracket, and pivot the bracket backwards.
3. Slide the bracket forward and lift the hard drive fan assembly out

Installation of FT1:
1. Lower the hard drive fan assembly, and slide the hard drive fan bracket back so that the tabs enter the slots.
2. Pivot the hard drive fan bracket toward rear of server until it clicks.
3. Connect the hard drive fan assembly cable to the power board
4. Route the hard drive fan assembly cable back into the cable guides.

Removal of FT2:
1. Pull the tag labeled FT2 and remove the FB-DIMM fan assembly.

Installation of FT2:
1. Reinsert the FB-DIMM fan assembly in the slot with the airflow direction arrow facing rear of server.
2. Slide the FB-DIMM fan assembly in the slot until fully seated.

Completion of replacement:
1. Install Top Cover.
2. Connect all power cables.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Customer restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
