FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Disk Backplane

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0"), and after the system has shut down Switch from the system console to the -> prompt by typing the #. (Hash Period) key sequence. At the -> prompt, type the stop /SYS command.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

1. Disconnect all power cables
2. Remove the Top Cover

Removal:

1. Remove the hard drives &  DVD if one installed.  Please note the location of the hard drives so that they a installed in the same position on the new assembly.

2. Disconnect the cables from the media assembly.

3. Untighten the captive Green screws & then remove the media assembly.


Installation:

1. Insert the media assembly & tighten the green captive screws.

2. Connect the cables to the media assembly.

3. Install the hard drives & DVD drive (if one installed prior).

4. Install Top Cover.

5. Connect all power cables.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Customer restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
