Goal

Properly power down an Axiom array.

Fix

To properly shutdown the Axiom, ensure the following:
· Axiom is Normal
· No Background Tasks are running.
· Quiesce all I/O streams to the Axiom.
· Important! If you need to power off the system for >48 hrs, remove the batteries.

Then, go to System > Shutdown/Restart, and choose “Shutdown Now” on the Action pull down. Click “Ok” when the next splash screen comes up.

The Axiom will now show that the shutdown is in progress (as a background task), and to wait.

Once shutdown has finished, the Axiom will show an inverted yellow triangle as status, and that it has been shutdown. You will also see a flashing Admin Action triangle.

Clicking on the Flashing ! icon, reveals an Admin Action that the “System State is Read Only”.

Clicking on that Admin Action should reveal that “Pilot is in Read-only state because it is shutdown”. This is the proper indication that the shutdown was successful.

You may now power off all the components on this system at this time.
***If you cannot turn power off or on to all components at once using the breakers on the PDUs: Please use the below order. Note that at all times any FC-RAID bricks must see its child FC-JBOD brick as powered on.

Power Down order
FC-RAID Bricks
FC-JBOD Bricks
SATA Bricks
NAS Slammer
SAN Slammer
Pilots
Unseat Slammer batteries if >48 hours non-power
Power Up order
Place back Slammer batteries (if unseated)
FC-JBOD Bricks
FC-RAID Bricks
SATA Bricks
Pilots
SAN Slammer
NAS Slammer

If you choose not to power off any components, and you eventually want to bring the system out of the shutdown state, simply issue a “Restart Now” from the Action pull down menu.

You can confirm the Restart choice from the screen by clicking “Ok”

You should get another screen that the restart is in progress and note that you will lose GUI access temporarily. The system may not allow GUI login for 2-3 mins.

Once logged in, you may find it going through its Booting stage.

Monitor the Axiom on the Health > Summary tab and wait for the Axiom to come up Normal. If any of these steps do not behave as shown, please engage Oracle Technical support.
