T6320 training is desirable but not required

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PEOBLEM OVERVIEW: failed FEM

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Shut Down the Oracle Solaris OS
Prepare the Server Module for Removal
Remove the Server Module From the Modular System
Remove the Cover
ESD Safety Measures

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove a FEM

1. Lift the lever to eject the card.
2. Rotate the card up and off the retainer.
3. Place the removed FEM on an antistatic mat.

Install a FEM

1. Insert the FEM edge into the bracket and carefully align the FEM so that the card connects with the motherboard connectors.
2. Lower the card and press the card into place.
   If the card has rubber bumpers you can press directly on them to seat the card into the connectors.
3. Return the server module to operation.


OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear
     component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
