PROBLEM OVERVIEW: memory DIMM failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Shut Down the Oracle Solaris OS
Prepare the Server Module for Removal
Remove the Server Module From the Modular System
Remove the Cover
ESD Safety Measures
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Remove a DIMM
1. Press the Remind button on the motherboard to identify the DIMMs that need
to be replaced.
2. Push down on the ejector tabs on each side of the DIMM until the DIMM is
released.
3. Grasp the top corners of the faulty DIMM and lift it out of its slot.
4. Place the DIMM on an antistatic mat.
5. Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 for any other DIMMs you intend to remove.
6. If you do not plan to install replacement DIMMs at this time, install filler
panels in the empty slots.
Install a DIMM
1. Unpack the replacement DIMMs and place them on an antistatic mat.
2. Ensure that the ejector tabs on the connector that will receive the DIMM are in
the open position.
3. Push the DIMM into the connector until the ejector tabs lock the DIMM in
place.
If the DIMM does not easily seat into the connector, check the DIMM’s orientation.
4. Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 until all new DIMMs are installed.
5. Install the top cover.
6. Clear any faults or enable components on ILOM.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear
component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
