DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
T4-1B training is desirable but not required
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: SP failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Shut Down the Oracle Solaris OS
Prepare the Server Module for Removal
Remove the Server Module From the Modular System
Remove the Cover
ESD Safety Measures
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Remove Service Processor
1. If possible, save the configuration information for the SP.
2. If a REM is installed in the server module, remove the REM.
3. Push down on the tab to eject the SP card.
Rotate the card up and off the retainer.
Set the card on an antistatic mat.
Install Service Processor
1. Insert the replacement SP card into the retainer.
Ensure that the tab is aligned with the key.
2. Seat the SP card into the connector by pressing the card toward the tabs while pressing down.
When the SP card is in place, the lever will close.
3. Return the server module to the chassis.
4. Access Oracle ILOM on the SP.
If the replacement service processor detects that the service processor firmware is not compatible
with the existing host firmware, further action is suspended and the following message is displayed:
Unrecognized Chassis: This module is installed in an unknown or
unsupported chassis. You must upgrade the firmware to a newer
version that supports this chassis.
If you see this message, go to Step 5. Otherwise, go to Step 6.
5. Download the system firmware.
6. If you created a backup of the SP configuration, use the Oracle ILOM restore utility to restore the configuration.
7. Return the server module to operation.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear
component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
