PROBLEM OVERVIEW: fan module failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : N/A
The fan module is a Hot Swappable CRU.

Fan Module Overview: The 4 fan modules in the server are located at the front of the chassis.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

CAUTION - While the fan modules provide some cooling redundancy, if a fan module fails, replace it as soon as possible to maintain server availability. When you remove one of the fans in the rear row, you must replace it within 30 seconds to prevent overheating of the server.

A) Locate a Faulty Fan Module

View the following LEDs, which are lit when a fan module fault is detected:
- Fan Module (FAN) Fault LED on the front of the server.
Each fan module contains an LED. When the amber Service Required LED is lit, a fault has occurred on that fan module.

B) Removing a Fan Module

1. Press down on the two latches to release the filter tray from the chassis.

2. Flip the filter tray over to access the air filter.

3. Remove the filter tray.

4. Determine which fan module to remove.

5. Pinch the lever release buttons at the bottom of the fan module.

6. Pull the release lever out and up.

7. Pull the fan module out from the chassis by the lever.

C) Install a Fan Module

1. Lift the lever to the raised position and align the fan module to the location where it installs into the chassis.

2. Push the fan module into the chassis until the lever moves slightly down.

3. Lower the lever down to secure the fan module into the chassis.

4. Push on the release lever so that it clicks.

5. Install the filter tray

6. Close the filter tray
