TASK COMPLEXITY: 3

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
Maintenance window may be required

TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

System must be offline.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1. Preparing Activity:

a. Power off the server module.
b. Remove the server module from the chassis and lay it flat cover side up on an anti-static mat.

Caution - After removing the server from the chassis insert a filler panel into an empty slot to reduce the possibility of a system shutdown.

c. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
d. Remove the top cover.

2. Remove reusable components from the server module motherboard:

* DIMMs
* DIMM fillers
* USB Thumbdrives

* RAID Expansion Modules (REM)

* REM Storage Drive Cable

* Fabric Expansion Modules (FEM)

* Hard Drives (HDD)

* Solid State Drives (SSD)

* Hard Drive Bay Fillers
* Processor and heat sink

3. Install the same components on the new server module motherboard assembly.  Ensure that all reusable components that have been removed from the original server Motherboard are put back in the same slots they were in. This is important for future problem diagnosis.

4. Return the server module to operation.

a. Install the server module top cover.
b. Insert the server module into the Sun Blade chassis.
c. Power on the server module.

5. Update the BIOS and firmware.

* Refer to the corresponding ILOM supplement.

SB replacement can lead to a serial number of '00000000' which will break ASR if the SBs are not reprogrammed after replacement. In order to reprogram the serial number you will first need access into 'Escalation Mode' and this requires a long password which is obtained from our TSC. This 'Escalation' password is needed to reprogram the serial number of the system board.

An Escalation password (similar to service password) is valid for 48 hours, and is provided by our TSC. The following information is needed in order for the TSC to generate your temporary password granting access to Escalation Mode in order to reprogram the serial number.
You will initially need to provide the following information:
..ILOM Version? (see "version" output)
..Serial Number? (-> show /SYS product_serial_number )

..Time and date (-> show /SP/clock)
..When you will be onsite? (How soon do you need this escalation password?)

Please refer to documents 'How to access service mode and escalation mode on ILOM 3.x and later platforms (Doc ID https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=1019946.1)' for accessing escalation mode and 'How to update product serial number on systems which implement Top Level Identifier functionality (Doc ID https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=1280913.1)' for further instructions on programming the serial number and product part number. for additional scope on reprogramming the serial number of the system board.
