DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED: An understanding of Guided Maintenance in R4 and R5

TIME ESTIMATE: 30mins

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS: Log onto the Axiom GUI / Client to access Guided Maintenance

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: The FRU can be Failed/Warning status

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE: Read reference docs before proceeding:

Pillar Axiom: How to use Guided Maintenance in R4 and How to identify a FRU

Pillar Axiom: How to use Guided Maintenance in R5 and How to identify a FRU

Overview and Notes:

Please read this entire procedure in advance before attempting the procedure so you are familiar with the process and concepts.
This action plan is to instruct you on how to remove and replace a failed RAID Controller Unit.

IMPORTANT!  RAID Controller Units are replaced from the back of the Brick chassis. Take note that Raid Controller 1 (RC1) is on the left when facing the rear of the brick and Raid Controller 0 (RC0) is on the right.

For  FC Cables:

• Do not pull on them.
• Do not apply sideways force to them.
• Do not pull them tight; leave them slack at all times.

Identity the proper Brick and the RAID Controller Units physical location

From the Health Tab of the GUI Select the Brick link on the bottom left part of the screen.

From the Brick screen, please select the Brick that has the faulted FRU

Select the hyperlink of the correct Raid Controller # to be serviced.  Review the image which highlights the location of the controller when facing the rear of the brick.

Select ‘Replace Component’

Decide how you would like to identify the Brick and go physically look at your system to make sure you have properly identified the correct Brick.

RAID Controller Units are replaced from the back of the Brick chassis. Walk around to the rear of the target brick. Take note that Raid Controller 1 (RC1) is on the left when facing the rear of the brick and Raid Controller 0 (RC0) is on the right.

 Raid Controller V2

Inspect the cables which are attached to the controller which is to be replaced. If the cables are not labeled to show where they connect on the controller, make a notation that shows which cable connects to which port.

Click the Prepare System button in the GUI, the system will ensure that data paths which are supported by this controller are failed over to utilize the ports of the partner controller. The partner RAID controller will support access to the LUNs on all drives of the brick while the part is beng replaced. This may cause some performance degradation along user data paths until you complete the replacement.

After Guided Maintenance enables the Next button in the Prepare step, click the Next button.

When Guided Maintenance prompts you to remove the controller, disconnect all cables from the ports on the target controller. Note: Carefully grasp the cable connector and, while pushing the connector gently into the socket, press the latch on the top of the connector to unlatch it. Gently, pull the connector straight out. Do not use force or rock the connector from side to side or up and down to remove it. Doing so will damage the socket.

Remove the faulty Raid Controller Unit

Unscrew the two screws that secure the locking tabs to the controller casing. Springs retain the screws in the locking tabs. Push the controller’s two locking tabs down, which disengages the controller from the brick midplane. Slowly and evenly slide the controller out of the brick chassis and set it aside. Important! Immediately replace the component to maintain proper airflow and cooling.  Over-temperature conditions will occur if the replacement FRU is not installed into the chassis.  Over-temperature conditions can damage other components.

Insert the replacement RAID Controller Unit

Slowly and evenly slide the replacement controller into place until it stops. Push up on the locking tabs for final connector seating.  Screw the two Phillips screws into the controller casing to secure the locking tabs.

Reconnect all cables into the ports on the replacement controller.

Click the Next button to complete the replacement procedure. At this point, Guided Maintenance fails back the port group in the replacement controller so that the ports again support the data paths.

On the Verify page: If Guided Maintenance enables the Finish button, click it. But if Guided Maintenance displays a ‘Verification Failed’ message: Click the Try Again button and reseat the part. If the second attempt is successful, click the Next button; otherwise, contact Technical Support to continue Guided Maintenance for the FRU. Click the Exit button and contact Oracle Support Center

Once verification is complete, review the status of the replacement FRU in the GUI’s Health tab to confirm that it has a Normal status.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Complete guided maintenance

PARTS NOTE:

Return the parts if requested by Support/Engineering via the CPAS system. Otherwise dispose of replaced parts as normal
