FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: System ID PROM (SCC) failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The system ID PROM, sometimes referred to as the SCC, provides the server module with the host ID, MAC addresses, and some Oracle ILOM configuration information.
The system ID PROM does not typically require replacement. However, if you replace the ID PROM, be aware that the host ID and MAC address will change.

Prepare for service by performing the following tasks:
Shut Down the Oracle Solaris OS
Prepare the Server Module for Removal
Remove the Server Module From the Modular System
    Remove the Cover
    ESD Safety Measures

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Remove the ID PROM

Locate the ID PROM on the motherboard.
Lift the ID PROM straight up from its socket.

Install the ID PROM.

Align the ID PROM notched end with the notched end on the motherboard socket and press in place.
Return the server module to operation.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

Verify the ID PROM

The host MAC address and the Host ID values are stored in the ID PROM. This task describes ways to display these values.

1. Display the MAC address that is stored in the ID PROM.

Example using the Oracle ILOM show command:

    -> show /HOST macaddress

2. Display the host ID.

Example using the Solaris hostid command:

    # hostid
    857f6844

3. Display the Ethernet address.

Example using the Solaris ifconfig command:

    # ifconfig -a

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
