In this Document
Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version: Not ApplicableSun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version: Not Applicable and later [Release: N/A and later] Information in this document applies to any platform. GoalSL3000/SL8500 - Can Expired Cleaning Cartridge Move Automatically to CAP.SolutionSL3000/SL8500 drive cleaning should be managed by ACSLS or HSC if connected to HSC/ELS or ACSLS.On a SL3000/SL8500 library managed by ACSLS, ACSLS logs a message to the event log when a cleaning tape has reached the maximum use specified on the set clean command. At that time you need to run the command "eject cap_id vol_id|Vol_range" to eject the cleaning expired tape through the library CAP. Even if the library managed the drives cleaning, you need to run a Recovery Move diagnostics to move the expired cleaning tape to the CAP with current code level of SL3000. In both cases its NOT done automatically. Anytime Oracle’s library manager’s are used, they should be configured to manage cleaning tapes. The SL8500 library is only supported on the HLI interface thus it is always managed by either ACSLS or HSC/ELS. The controller based cleaning function should never be enabled against the SL8500 and is not supported or tested. If the SL3000 is Fibre attached and controlled by a third party application such as NBU, ACSLS and HSC is not used. In this configuration we recommend cleaning management be enabled at the library controller. Note: There is no way to automatically eject spent cleaning carts within ACSLS.
