Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Experience with 7310 or 7410 NAS hardware and administration.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 mins

PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: Replace faulty system disk
Where: In a 7310 or 7410 system disks are located in slots HDD6 and HDD7 in the head unit
Why : A system disk has been diagnosed to be faulty

REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
If the mirror disk in the SYSTEM pool is healthy then disk replacement should be undertaken with the system powered up and active.
To check that the mirror disk is healthy
BUI: Maintenance - SYSTEM
CLI: maintenance system disks show
Look at the "System Disks" section.  Check that the other disk in the system pool is healthy.  If so the faulted system disk can be removed online.
If there is a fault with the other disk in the pool it may be necessary to shut the system down before replacing a system disk - check with the SR owner.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
1. Identify the faulted disk
The system disks are HDD6 and HDD7 which are located on the bottom row of disks on the NAS head, the two disks furthest to the left as you face the front of the appliance. Using BUI or CLI turn on the locator LED on the disk to be replaced.
BUI: Maintenance - Hardware
click "Show Details" on the NAS head
Toggle the locate indicator on for either HDD6 or HDD7 depending on which disk is to be replaced. NOTE that these disks have a TYPE of System listed against them.

CLI:  maintenance hardware select chassis-000 select disk select [disk-006 or disk-007] set locate=true

Now proceed to remove the faulted disk online if possible, or shutdown the appliance if necessary.

2. Remove faulted disk
  • Physically locate the drive, either by locating the amber fault LED, and/or by the flashing locator LED that was activated by the method above.
  • On the drive you plan to remove, push the storage drive release button to open the latch.
  • Grasp the latch and pull the drive out of the drive slot.
3. Install the new disk
  • Slide the new drive into the empty drive slot until it is fully seated.
  • Close the latch to lock the drive in place.

Turn off locate LED if activated
BUI: Maintenance - Hardware
click "Show Details" on the NAS head
Toggle the locate indicator off
CLI:  maintenance hardware select chassis-000 select disk select [disk-006 or disk-007] set locate=false

Confirm the appliance is in a normal state. Check both BUI and client data access.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI.
BUI: Maintenance - Problems ("Mark Repaired" any prior related System disk faults).
