Goal

Describe how to restart the Service Processor of a Sun ZFS Storage system

Fix

BUI-method (Browser User Interface)

1. Log in to the BUI as root

2. Go to "Maintenance -> Hardware" and click on the "Show details"-link under the picture of the NAS-head.

3. Click on the SP-link to the right

4. Click on the round arrows to the far right of the Service Processor-heading.
   The following warning will occur:

Click reset in the dialogue-box to reset the Service Processor.

5. The Service Processor will now reboot, and the following notice will appear in the BUI

6. After 2-3 minutes when the Service Processor has rebooted the following will become visible in the BUI

7. Verify that the Service Processor is now working properly either via SSH to the NET-MGT port, or via a serial-cable to the SER-MGT port and login as root.

CLI-method

1. SSH to the appliance and login as root.
2. Run the following command from the CLI-prompt

maintenance hardware select chassis-000 select sp reset

You will get the following warning :

This will restart the service processor Are you sure? (Y/N)

   Press y to confirm.
The Service Processor will now reboot.

3. After 2-3 minutes the SP should have completed it's reboot(status notices can be viewed in the WEB GUI as per the BUI-method.
4. Verify that the Service Processor is now working properly either via SSH to the NET-MGT port, or via a serial-cable to the SER-MGT port and login as root.

SP-method

To be used in case that the SP can be accessed via SSH or serial-connection)
1. Connect to the Service Processor via serial-cable to the SER-MGT port, or by SSH'ing to the NET-MGT interface.
2. Log in as root.
3. Run:

        -> reset /SP
Are you sure you want to reset /SP (y/n)?

   Press y to confirm.
If connected via serial-cable you will now see SP boot-sequence output.
If connected via SSH you will now be disconnected, the connection will appear to hang until the session times out within a few minutes.
4. If using serial-cable the Service Processor will be ready once the login-prompt appears.
If using SSH, the login service will become available about one minute after the NET-MGT port starts responding to ping requests.
5. Log in and verify the Service Processor is working as expected.
