Goal

Replace a Sun ZFS Unified Storage Appliance 7320/7320 Cluster Log device.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Product knowledge, ZFS storage 7320/7320 Cluster, J4410.

- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes.

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: Need Replace a Sun ZFS Storage 7320/7320[C] Log device.
Where: Chassis S/N: Slot Number of log Device - should be inserted by TSC.
Why : A Log device has been reported failed or faulted by the appliance.

REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
No downtime required, system can be in full production.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1 .Locate the faulty Log device.

BUI - Method
1.1 From BUI go to "Maintenance - Hardware .
1.2 Double click on the model of the Disk Shelf which has the fault icon.
1.3 Locate the fault icon in the lists of hardware components, and click it. The image should be updated to show where that component is physically located.
1.4 Optionally, click the locate toggle indicator icon for that component, if the component has it. The LED on the component will begin to flash.

CLI - Method
1.5 Log in to the CLI using SSH or via the Service Processor console.
1.6 Go to the maintenance hardware context and List the appliance components: hostname:maintenance hardware> list
1.7 Select the chassis and list its components:hostname:maintenance hardware--select chassis-id
hostname:maintenance chassis-id-- list
1.8Select the component type and show all available disks:
hostname:maintenance chassis-id-- select disk
hostname:maintenance chassis-id disk-- show
1.9 Select the faulted disk and turn on the locate LED
hostname:maintenance chassis-id disk-- select disk-id
hostname:maintenance chassis-id disk-id-- set locate=true
locate = true (uncommitted)
hostname:maintenance chassis-id disk-id-- commit

2.Take ESD Precautions.

3. Check the Log Device part numbers for the appropriate system in the System Handbook and re-confirm.

4.Removing the Faulty SSD
4.1 Physically locate the failed SSD with help of the locator-led.
4.2 Press the release button in and to the right to release the disk ejection lever.
4.3 Pull the disk ejection lever fully open to unlock and partially eject the disk drive from the tray.
4.4 Grasp the middle of the disk drive body and pull it toward you to remove it from the tray.
4.5.Wait for at least 30 seconds, before continuing with the next step.

5. Installing New SSD
5.1 Ensure the disk ejection lever is in the fully extended position.
5.2 Slide the drive into the disk tray.
5.3 Push the disk drive into the tray slot until the disk ejection lever engages the tray connectors and begins to swing closed.
5.4 Press the disk ejection lever closed until it locks in place to seat the drive and lock it into the tray.
5.5 Verify the Activity LED is steady green.
5.6 At this point the system will detect that the failed/faulted drive has been replaced.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI. ("Mark Repaired" any prior related Log Device faults).
