Goal

This document describes how to recover offline VRTDs between a VSM and a VLE after a customer network outage.

It's possible that a customer may have a network outage that impacts communication between the VSM IFF cards and the VLE.  The VRTDs may go offline with FSC8FEE and not vary back online due to path communication issues.

A ping from the VLE to the VSM IFF card IP address may work but a path validation attempt from the VSM to a target on the VLE will fail.

Solution

1. Record the current IP configuration information for any IFF card having a problem.

2. Verify that all VRTDs (IFF card Targets) are either offline or inoperational.  It is possible that a local target might be working while a distant target is not working, or vice versa.  This recovery action impacts ALL targets for this particular IFF card.  Be sure all targets are offline or inoperational before proceeding.

3. Reset the IFF IP addresses to zero.  This means put zeros in for the IP addresses for:
    - The IFF card,
    - The IFF Gateway
    - The IFF Subnet Mask
    - All 4 IFF card Targets (0-3).
This action will cause the IFF card to perform an internal reset of its IP interface.

4. Reconfigure the IFF IP addresses back to their original values.

5. Wait 2 minutes for the IFF card to log into the fabric.

6. Perform a path validate to all targets for this IFF card.

7. Repeat steps 1 to 5 for each IFF card having problems.

8. Ask the customer to bring the VRTDs back online and verify that they now work.  Reference MOS knowledge article 1369096.1 for instructions for performing the vary online of the VRTDs
