This Document shows how to safely replace the Dust Filter of a Sun Fire [TM] V1280/E2900, Netra 1280/1290 ( LW8/Amazon/Everglades ) system

Solution

Dust Filter Replacement - V1280, N1280, N1290, E2900

Figure 1

Figure 1 shows the right-hand door assembly from an E2900 with the dust filter partially removed. We will discuss the correct way to remove the dust filter so as to avoid breaking the door grill. This discussion equally applies to any of the LW8 family of systems.

The dust filter is held in place by two metal flaps fixed to one side of the door, and two plastic poppits on the other side of the door.

First, locate the two plastic poppits and pull them out of the poppit holes on the dust filter with your fingers. Place them safely aside. The dust filter is still held in place on the door grill by way of plastic extrusions on the underside of the poppit holes (see Figure 2). These plastic extrusions are inserted into the receptor holes on the door grill (see Figure 3). Use the blade of a screw driver, near to the poppit holes, and ease the dust filter upwards. Take care not to insert the blade of the screw driver too deep else you will be trying to remove the door grill. If the door grill snaps away from its frame, it's likely to be broken and cannot be replaced. A new door will be required.

Once the poppit holes on the dust filter detach from the receptor holes on the grill, pull the dust filter out from under the flaps (see Figure 4) on the opposite side of the door. The dust filter is now safely removed. A dust filter which is heavily clogged with dust and hair might need a little extra effort as it will be effectively "stitched" to the grill.

When installing the new dust filter, make sure to snap the plastic extrusions on the underside of the poppit holes, into the receptor holes on the grill before attempting to insert the two plastic poppits. If you insert the poppits first, the filter won't snap into place on the door grill.
