How to Replace a 7320 Memory DIMM

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Training and experience with 7320 NAS hardware and administration.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: Replace faulty memory DIMM
Where: DIMM location Proc/DIMM slot to be entered by TSC, or refer to the BUI for exact slot locations for DIMMS: Maintenance - Hardware - show details - DIMM
Why : A DIMM has been determined to be faulty

REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
* You must shut down the appliance. This can be done from the BUI, CLI, SP or by using the front panel power button procedure as necessary.
* Disconnect the power cords.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
1. Ensure all antistatic precautions are taken.
2. Remove server from rack
3. Remove top cover

4. Remove DIMM(s)
4.1 To identify the location of the faulty DIMMS, press the Fault Remind button on the motherboard.
4.2 Faulty memory DIMMs are identified with an amber LED on the motherboard
4.3 Rotate both DIMM slot ejectors outward as far as they will go.
4.4 The DIMM should now be partially ejected from the socket
4.5 Carefully lift the DIMM straight up to remove it from the socket.

5. Install DIMM(s)
5.1 Ensure that the replacement DIMMs match the sizes of the DIMMs they are replacing.
5.2 Ensure that the ejector tabs are in the open position.
5.3 Align the notch in the DIMM with the key in the connector.
5.4 Push the DIMM into the connector until the ejector tabs lock the DIMM in place.
5.5 If the DIMM does not easily seat into the connector, verify that the notch in the DIMM is aligned with the key in the connector.

6 Return system to operational state
6.1 Place the top cover on the chassis so that it hangs over the rear of the slightly. Slide the top cover forward until it seats.
6.2 Close the fan cover and engage the fan cover latches. NOTE: The cover must be completely closed for the storage controller to power on.
6.3 Reinstall the appliance back in its original rack location.
6.4 Reconnect all of the cables including power cables.
6.5 Verify that standby power is on - the Power/OK LED flashes on the front panel about 2 minutes after the power cords are plugged in.
6.6 Use a pen, or other pointed object, to press and release the recessed Power button on the controller front panel.The Power/OK LED next to the Power button lights and remains lit. SSH to the service processor (SP) and check appliance power state.
 - show /SYS power_state
If status is off start up the system.
 - start /SYS

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
Confirm the appliance is in a normal state. Check both BUI and client data access.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Confirm there are no faults reported in the appliance BUI.
Maintenance - Problems  ("Mark Repaired" any prior related DIMM faults).
Should an error return for the same DIMM, reseat the DIMM and monitor the appliance for further errors.
