Goal

Replace Memory DIMM in 7110, 7310 or 7410 Appliance

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Experience with 7110, 7310 or 7410 NAS hardware

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: Replace faulty memory DIMM
Where: DIMM [Proc/DIMM], check BUI for slot location:
Maintenance - Hardware - show details - DIMM
Why : DIMM has been diagnosed faulty

REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY:
- Shut down appliance
- Disconnect power cords from rear panel.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
1. Ensure all antistatic precautions are taken
2. Remove server from rack
3. Remove top cover - press the top cover release button and slide to the rear slightly before removing
4 If you are servicing a 7410 system, you will also need to lift the air duct to replace DIMMs on the mezzanine board, or remove the mezzanine tray to replace DIMMs on the motherboard

5. Remove DIMM(s)
5.1 To help identify faulty DIMM press Fault Remind button on motherboard, a corresponding amber LED is lit
5.2 To remove faulty DIMM push down on ejector tabs on each side of DIMM until it is released

6. Install DIMM(s)
6.1 Ensure that replacement DIMMs match those they are replacing.
NOTE - DIMM slots are paired so DIMMs must be replaced in matched pairs (0-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6-7). Memory sockets are colored black or white to indicate which slots are paired by matching colors. Each pair of DIMMs must be identical (same manufacturer, size, and speed).

6.2 Align notch in DIMM with the key in connector.
6.3 Push DIMM into connector until ejector tabs lock DIMM in place.

7. Return system to operational state
7.1 Place top cover on the chassis so that it just overhangs rear of unit. Slide top cover forward until it seats.
7.2 Close fan cover and engage latches. NOTE: cover must be completely closed for the storage controller to power on.
7.3 Reinstall appliance back in its original rack location.
7.4 Reconnect all of the cables.
7.5 Verify standby power is on - Power/OK LED flashes on the front panel about 2 minutes after power cords are plugged in.
7.6 Use a pen to press and release recessed Power button on front panel. The Power/OK LED next to the Power button lights and remains lit. SSH to the service processor (SP) and check power state.
   show /SYS
If off start up system.
   start SYS

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
Confirm appliance is in a normal state. Check both BUI and client data access

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Confirm no faults reported in the appliance BUI
Maintenance - Problems ("Mark Repaired" any prior related DIMM faults)

PARTS NOTE:
Replace DIMMs in pairs and ensure part numbers match.

7110: F540-7599 2 x 2GB DIMM
         F540-7829 2 x 2GB single-rank DIMM
7310: F540-7600 2 x 4GB DIMM
7410: F540-7599 2 x 2GB DIMM
         F540-7829 2 x 2GB single-rank DIMM
         F540-7600 2 x 4GB DIMM
         F541-3419 2 x 8GB dual-rank DIMM
