Fix
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Training and experience with 7x10 and 7x20 single head and Cluster NAS hardware and software
- TIME ESTIMATE: 15 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
What: SAS cable
Where: cable between HBA [X] / JBOD sn [X] port [X] and JBOD sn [X] port [X] - X to be inserted by SR owner
Why : The SAS cable has been identified as being faulty by the appliance and/or SR owner
REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
The NAS can be in production and does not need to be down as 2 paths to the storage should exist - confirm by checking the BUI
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Locate the SAS cable [Location of the device mentioned in the problem statement to be inserted here by SR owner]
2. Take ESD Precautions.
3. Check the SAS cable part number for the appropriate system in the System Handbook.
4. Replace the SAS cable as follows;
Use two hands to disconnect the SAS cable. Grasp the metal body of the connector with one hand and firmly grasp and pull the tab gently toward the connector body with the other, then pull the connector body outward to extract it from the bulkhead. Do not twist or pull the tab in any direction other than parallel with the connector body or it may break. If the tab breaks, use a small sharp object (such as a fine-tipped screwdriver) to lift the metal spring at the top of the connector shell to unlatch it.
5. Verify the replacement by checking the LEDs, also the cable link can be identified as working in the BUI by checking "Maintenance - HARDWARE" screen and checking the "Disk Shelves" section to ensure Paths=2.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
None - paths are automatically restored on insertion.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE : liaise with customer to check that replacing the SAS cable has resolved the problem.
