Applies to:Sun Fire X2270 Server - Version: Not ApplicableInformation in this document applies to any platform. GoalHow to replace a x2270 system boardSolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: X2270 Training - TIME ESTIMATE: 120 Minutes - TASK COMPLEXITY: 3 FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS: - PROBLEM OVERVIEW Instructions to remove and replace X2270 system board (motherboard) - WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? The operating system should be brought down - WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: If a Service Processor is installed then make a note of the serial number so that it can be rewritten after motherboard replacement. To obtain this execute the following command from the ILOM cli. -> show /SYS product_serial_number If more detailed information is required for any of the following steps then refer to section 3.5.17 of Sun Fire X2270 Server Service Manual http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19432-01/index.html Caution Observe proper ESD precautions To remove the motherboard: 1. Power off the system and remove the cover 2. Remove the PCIe card, the air duct, and if installed, the optional SP module. 3. Disconnect all cables attached to the motherboard. 4. Remove the four screws from the CPU(s) heatsink (4 screws per heatsink and remove CPU(s) and DIMMs 5. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the eight screws that fasten the motherboard to the chassis. 6. Pull the motherboard away from the chassis. To install the motherboard: 1. Center the motherboard on the chassis so that the screw holes in the motherboard align with the screw holes on the chassis. 2. Secure the eight Phillips screws that fasten the motherboard to the chassis. Torque screws to 8-9 inch-pounds. 3. Replace the CPUs and DIMMs as necessary. 4. Replace the PCIe card, air duct, and if installed, the optional SP module. 5. Reconnect all internal system cables. See the following section for information: 6. Replace the air duct and system cover. ======================================================== 7. Replace any external cables and power on the server. If there is an SP (Service Processor) installed then system serial number will have to be rewritten using servicetool. 1. Enter escalation mode see document https://support.us.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=1019946.1&h=Y 2) Under escalation mode use servicetool to write previously noted serial number onto new board and then reboot see example [(flash)root@x2270-bur09-b-sp:~]# servicetool --fru_product_serial_number Clear faults from SP 1) From ILOM cli to obtain logged faults -> show faulty 2) For each fault clear by using the following: -> set component_path clear_fault_action=true OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE - WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot the operating system.
