Goal

This document summarizes the actions to undertake in order to re-enable Automatic Service Request (ASR) for an array which has a change of its Serial Number (SN#). A SN# change occurs when specific parts are replaced on in the product on the controller tray. This can be, but not limited to:

  • Tray Midplane replacement on a 2500, 2500-M2, 6130, 6140, 6180, or Flexline 240 Controller Tray.
  • Controller Tray Interconnect Controller/ICC, on a Flexline 380, 6540, 6580, or 6780 Controller Tray.

When this situation occurs, your array will attempt to contact Oracle with a new serial number, which is not registered under your service contract. As such,
the ASR service will not open any SRs for this unit. Your contract information must be updated, and the array must be reactivated in My Oracle Support.

Fix

  1. Collect the old SN#.

1a. If you already have the old SN#, you can move to step 2. Otherwise move to step 1b.

1b. You need to have an old supportdata from the array and unzip it.

    1c. Open the "storageArrayProfile.txt" file.

1d. Do a search with the keywords "Drive/Controller Tray" and you will find outputs like below:

Overall Component Information for Drive/Controller Tray.85
          Speed Mismatch: false
          IOM Miswire: false
          IOM Mismatch: false
          Part Number: PN 16502-00
          Serial Number: SN
    ---hidden---
  2. Collect the new SN#.

2a. Collect a fresh supportdata from the array. Refer <Document 1002514.1> Collecting Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Support Data or <Document 1014074.1> Collecting Support Data for Arrays Using Sun StorageTek[TM] SANtricity Storage Manager.

2b. Repeat the steps 1c-1d to extract the new SN#.
  3. Open a non-technical SR with the Oracle support and ask them to update the SN# for the corresponding Customer Service Identification (CSI). Provide the old and new SN#. Refer <Document 733242.5> My Oracle Support Help - General for assistance.
  4. Before moving to next step, please wait for a notification from My Oracle Support confirming that the SN# was changed. This notification will ask you to re-activate this array in My Oracle Support. Once you have re-activated it, please move to next step.
  5. Re-register the array in Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM).

Using the Brower User Interface (BUI).

5a. Follow the instructions "Unregistering an Array" in the Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Administration Guide to un-register the array.
5b. Follow the instructions "Registering an Array" in the Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Administration Guide to register the array.

NOTE: The Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Administration Guide are available at this location.

Using the Command Line Interface (CLI).

    Location of sscs:

    Solaris: /opt/SUNWstkcam/bin/
    Linux: /opt/sun/cam/bin/
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Sun\Common Array Manager\bin

5a. Execute the following command to un-register the array:

    sscs unregister storage-system <arrayname>

5b. Execute the following command to register the array:

    sscs register -i <controller A IP> storage-system
  6. Re-activate ASR for this array by following the instructions "Enabling/Disabling Auto Service Request for an Array" in the Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Administration Guide to Enabling ASR for the array.
