DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Need to be familiar with L-Series Library and LTO tape drive.

- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Bezel on the LTO tape drive is damaged / defective and requires replacement.

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
All work to the drive should be stopped.  Drive should be offline to the OS and software application.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
IBM LTO Preparation:

If the drives are daisy-chained, stop all data processing in the channel before disconnecting them.

Warning:
Electrocution hazard:  Do not tough any components on the power supply located within the electronics module or on the drive trays.  Live voltage could be present even though the unit is powered off.

Removing the tape drive:
1. Make sure the LTO drive is offline to any applications and the Operating System.
2. Open the right side door of the tape library.
3. Turn off the power to the drive by placing the switch in the off position.
4. Carefully remove the SCSI or Fibre Channel cable from the rear of the drive.  The SCSI cable requires
the unscrewing of two SCSI cable screw locks.
5. Loosen the thumbscrew on the left side of the drive.
6. Grip the rear of the drive and, while pulling it toward you, place your other hand under the drive tray for
    support.
7. Using both hands, remove the drive tray assembly from the slot, and place it on a flat, stable surface.

Caution:
Possible damage to bezel: the mounting tabs on the bezel are thin and easily broken. Be careful when following the next steps.

Removal of the Bezel:

8. Gently press the two tabs on the right side of the bezel and rotate the bezel to the left until the left side tabs disengage.
9. Pull the bezel away from the drive faceplate..

Replacement of the Bezel:
10. Orient the target at the bottom of the cartridge slot in the bezel.

Caution:
Possible damage to bezel: The mounting tabs on the IBM bezel can be broken. Be careful when following the next steps.

11. Insert the mounting tabs on the left side of the bezel into the two mounting slots along the left side of
      drive cartridge opening.
12. Swing the bezel toward the cover surface.
13. Gently press the side of the bezel until the tabs can be inserted into the holes.

Caution:
Possible equipment damage:  When sliding the tape drive into its slot, make sure the drive SCSI or Fibre Channel cable is out of the way.  Do not force the drive into the slot.

14. Slide the drive into its slot, being careful not to catch or crush any cables.
15. Tighten the thumbscrew on the left side of the drive.
16. For SCSI drives, connect the SCSI cable screw locks to the SCSI connector on the rear of the drive.
Otherwise, plug the Fibre Channel connector into the drive.
17. Turn on the drive power by placing the switch to the on position.
18. Close the right side door of the library.
19. Return the system to operation.

The old bezel can be discarded as it is considered a consumable item.
