DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Familiar with the SL500 library and LTO tape drive.
- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
The bezel on the LTO tape drive is damaged / defective and requires replacement.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
All work to the tape drive with problem needs to stop and the drive placed offline.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
The tape drives are installed in the rear of the base and drive expansion modules.
Caution:
ESD Sensitive: Damage may occur to the drive cards.
Removal of the drive:
1. Be sure that all jobs assigned to the drive have been ended.
At the rear of the library:
2. Disconnect the Fibre Channel cable from the right side of the drive tray.
For SCSI drives, remove the SCSI cable from the right side of the drive tray.
3. Loosen the spring-loaded screw on the right side of the drive tray until the screw is disengaged.
Caution:
Possible damage to the drive and bezel: Support the drive to a near horizontal position during removal to prevent the front of the bezel and the drive catching on the roof or floor of the drive opening.
4. Slide the drive/tray assembly out of the drive bay and set it on a table or cart.
5. Note the position of the target on the mounted bezel.
Caution:
Possible damage to bezel: the mounting tabs on the bezel are thin and easily broken. Be careful when following the next steps.
Removal of the bezel:
6. Gently press the upper right side of the bezel and roll the top right corner of the bezel back slightly to
disengage the top right tab from its mounting slot.
7. Carefully apply pressure to the lower right side and disengage the bottom tab.
Note:
If you are more comfortable using your left hand, you can remove the tabs along the left side first using the previous steps then follow the next step for removing the tabs along the right side.
8. Pivot the bezel away from the front of the drive until the mounting tabs on the left side can be easily
removed from their slots.
Replacement of the Bezel:
9. Orient the target so that it is positioned at the bottom of the bezel when mounted.
Caution:
Possible damage to bezel: The mounting tabs on the bezel are thin and easily broken. Be careful when following the next steps.
10. Insert the mounting tabs on the left side of the bezel into the two mounting slots along the left side of drive cartridge opening.
11. Align the bezel's bottom right tab with its mounting slot and gently press the lower right side on the bezel
until the tab slips into the slot.
12. Carefully press the upper right side of the bezel until the top right tab inserts into the upper mounting slot
and all the tabs are fully engaged.
Caution:
Possible damage to drive and bezel: Support the drive to a near horizontal position during installation to prevent the front of the bezel and the drive catching on the roof or floor of the drive opening.
13. Slide the drive/tray assembly into the drive bay until it is fully mated with the drive connector and the tab
on the right side is flush against the chassis.
14. Finger-tighten the spring-loaded screw on the right side of the drive tray.
15. Plug the Fibre Channel cable into the right side of the tray.
For SCSI drives, plug the SCSI cable into the right side of the drive tray.
Note:
Fibre Channel drives do not require configuring. The system remembers the drives.
The old bezel can be discarded as it is considered a consumable item.
