Goal

How to Remove a Logically Stuck Tape From C2 Library.

Solution

There are times when a tape cartridge may become logically stuck in the C2 library.
There are a couple of steps that can be taken to put the tape away into a cell location.

From Solaris, use the following command:
mt offline /dev/rmt/x          (x = the drive address)
What this will do is attempt to rewind / unload the tape cartridge.
Should you get a message back stating the drive is unloaded or offline, the following step should be taken.

Attempt to open up a Oracle webex session to the C2 library.
https://oraclesystemsupport.webex.com/mw0306ld/mywebex/default.do?siteurl=oraclesystemsupport
Once in the website, select "START" to begin a session.
A Invite window will open up.  Enter the email address of the person you want to connect with.
Once the connection is complete to the library, you will need to log in.

Complete information on how this is done is available in the C2 Autoloader User's Guide.

Once you are logged into the C2, go to the Command Page.
- Select Move Media
- Enter location, "from", then "to" location.
- Enter start.
This command may take a minute or two.  Once complete, the page will update and show where the media is located.  Have the customer check via their software application that the tape is seen in a cell.

Should the above steps not work, the cartridge may be physically stuck and require manual intervention to remove the tape cartridge.  Refer to the following Knowledge Entry for further information:
