Goal
Identify the number of batteries & the part number that needs to be replaced for 'Hitrack Battery Life Is Over' SIM
Solution
The dialed home configuration of the array contains the information required to identify the number and type of batteries to replace. Not all arrays are configured to dial-home but for those that are follow the following steps.
- Login to the HDS partner website https://portal.hds.com/
- Click on the Hi-Track link
- For the specific array model click on 'Configuration Information'
- Enter the array serial number in the box 'DKC Serial number (sssss):' and select 'Search'.
- Click on the XML download for the array (top right hand side)
- Open the XML with an XML editor (eg Microsoft Internet Explorer)
- Search for text "Battery" and identify the locations and quantity of the batteries with the DKC and DKUs
- Refer to the Maintenance Manual Parts/Periodic sections http://tsc-storage.us.oracle.com/products/T99x0/documentation.html and the systems handbook https://support.us.oracle.com/handbook_internal/Systems/eolSystemList.html to identify the part numbers.
- If you are unsure then seek guidance or ask for a visual inspection by a field engineer.
- Always ensure the ATR for the eventual replacement includes a task for the field engineer to visually double-check on the number and locations of the batteries.
- Another method to check for the optional batteries that maintain disk power is to download the configuration rather than the XML at step (5) and use the Configuration printout Tool from the Microcode CD . Search for "Power Lost Mode" in the spreadsheet which is normally "Memory Backup Mode" for cache/SM battery operation.
