GoalSL500/SL3000/SL8500 - Process for One Time Password, Adminstration Account.SolutionThe process for obtaining the initial One-Time-Password (OTP) for the SL500, SL3000 and SL8500 Tape Libraries has changed. The initial OTP password is now on a label affixed to the libraries. This document describes the content and location of the label. A brief excerpt from the Installation Manual is added at the bottom to describe how to connect to the library and set the Administration Password using this OTP. For a more detailed description refer to the most current Users Guide and Installation Manual for your particular library.Sample OTP Label has the following information: Manufacturing (MFG) control number: 4817439219 Machine serial number and bar code: 571000000000 One-Time-Password: 3H/jR:0 Note: - All One-Time-Passwords are 7-characters in length. - This is just an example and not a real One-Time-Password (OTP). Note: The label is affixed to the frame of the library. Refer to the attached document for example and pictures of the label placement being used on each library type. How to Activate the Administrator Account on the SL3000 and SL8500: The following procedure is taken from the SL8500 and SL3000 Installation Manuals. Connecting to the CLI: To activate the Admin user account, you must first connect to the Command Line Interface (CLI) on the HBC card. 1. Attach your PC’s serial cable (part 24100134) to the connector marked CLI (the second connector from the top on the HBC card) at the rear of the library. 2. Open a Hyperterminal session: For older PCs: Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Hyperterminal, and open a Hyperterminal session. For WIN2000 PCs: Click Start > Programs > Accessories Communications > Hyperterminal, and open a Hyperterminal session. 3. New sessions prompt you for a name and icon. Choose any name and any icon. 4. Select COM1 from the Connect using the pull down menu 5. Enter the following port settings: TABLE: Hyper-terminal Connections: Older PCs Win2000 PCs Baud rate = 38,400 Baud rate = 38,400 Data bits = 8 Data bits = 8 Parity bit = None Parity bit = None Stop bit = 1 Stop bit = 1 Direct to comm flow = none Direct to comm flow = none 6. Once configured, click OK and press Enter. 7. The command line interface (CLI) prompt appears. (If it does not, disconnect / and re-connect from the Call tab for the new settings to become effective.) Activating the Admin Account: 1. Enter the CLI using the Admin user account. 2. You will be prompted to enter the One Time Password from the sticker/label on the library. (For example enter 3H/jR:0) 3. When prompted that this password has expired, have the customer enter the new password for the site administrators (5-8 characters in length). Valid symbols are: All alph-numeric and special characters. 4. You will be prompted to re-enter the local password. The interface will close. You can now continue with their normal installation steps. How to activate the Admin User Account on the SL500: Before turning the SL500 over to the customer, perform this procedure. 1. Power on the library after fully installing it in the rack. 2. Connect your computer with terminal program to the CLI port- right hand RJ45 connector. Use cable number 24100134. 3. Wait for the login prompt - The library outputs Linux and system startup information. - Wait until a login prompt is displayed. It may take a few minutes. 4. Login using the Login Admin ID and One-Time-Password from the label on the library. a. The first time you login the password prompt will have (activation) on it. Use the One-Time-Password supplied on the label on the library to activate the account. b. Then type in a permanent password of customers choosing for the account. Note: You will no longer need the supplied activation password, and it will no longer work in the event your admin password is reset.
