FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW
Diagnostics need to be run on T10000 tape drive.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
The tape drive needs to be offline from the Software application and hardware system.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
If practical, you should run drive diagnostic routines to verify the functionality of each installed drive. You access the drive diagnostics from the StorageTek Diagnostic System (STDS) or the Virtual Operator Panel (service representative version) applications.
TIP - You need a formatted dump tape to run the drive diagnostic routines.
To Run Diagnostic Tests:
Note - See the Virtual Operator Panel User's Guide (Service Representative version) for VOP guidelines.
1. Connect your PC to the drive's maintenance port with a crossover Ethernet cable.
2. Launch the VOP application.
3. Establish a connection to the tape drive.
4. Set the drive offline.
5. Start the stand-alone FTP server application.
6. Select Drive Operations > Make Dump Tape, if you need to format a dump tape.
7. Select Diagnostics > FDE Run Test to access the diagnostic tests.
8. Select Load_Unload_Test and follow the prompts to verify drive load/unload functionality.
9. Select Short_WrtRd_Test and follow the prompts to verify write/read functionality across multiple
wraps.
10. Continue with step 11 to run more diagnostic tests or go to step 15 to end drive testing.
11. (Optional) Select "Long_WrtRd_Test" and follow the prompts to verify write/read functionality across
all wraps.
12. (Optional) Select "Diag_Write_Test" and follow the prompts to verify write functionality along
complete recordable tape length.
13. Write-protect the cartridge.
14 (Optional) Select "Diag_Read_Test" and follow the prompts to verify read functionality along complete
recordable tape length.
15. Exit the FDE Run Test Dialog.
16. Unload the cartridge.
17. Set the tape drive online.
18. Exit the VOP application.
19. Exit the FTP server application.
20. Disconnect the crossover Ethernet cable from the drive maintenance port.
Should there be a drive failure, a replacement drive will need to be ordered.
